Re-Signing and Tryout Processes 

Tryout processes and dates are set by Volleyball Alberta. Please see their website for more information about re-signing and tryout processes.

Re-signing of Current Club Athletes & Open Commitments

Re-signing of current club-affiliated athletes is designed to secure enough players to ensure a season is viable and the vital positions are secured. Re-signed athletes are provided with a Letter of Intent (LOI) form to sign and return within 48 hours.

Valkyrie VC will re-sign or do open commitments for Competitive Age Categories (16U-18U). Typically, Valkyrie VC re-signs 50-75% of the roster to allow space for new potential players who would like to attend our tryouts. Roster size varies year-to-year and will depend on team composition, team dynamics, and coach preferences. The names and positions of re-signed athletes names are post on the Club website (as per Volleyball Alberta regulations) to allow for informed decisions by athletes who are trying out for various clubs.

Valkyrie VC does not re-sign Development Age categories (13U-15U)

 

Fall Tryouts

Some teams will participate in Fall Tryouts.
Competitive Age Category (16U-18U) fall tryout period is Aug 30-Sept 13.
Development Age Category (13U-15U) fall tryout period is Sept 14-Sept 20. Valkyrie will not be hosting fall tryouts for these age categories.

All Tryouts will be held at Wetaskiwin Composite High School unless otherwise noted.

Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (ASAA) - Fall tryouts
All Tryouts will follow Schools Sports Association regulations. Please see ASAA and VA Joint Statement (2025) 
Players on the High School Sr Varsity team are only allowed to tryout on set dates (Aug 30, Sept 6, 7, 13). Student athletes are not allowed to tryout after Sept 14.
"Student-athletes who participate with non-school teams on any other dates between Aug31 -Nov 29 will be ruled ineligible for ASAA volleyball competition." 

 

Winter Tryouts

 Some teams will participate in Winter Tryouts.
Winter tryouts will begin on Sunday, November 29, 2026 as per Volleyball Alberta guidelines.

 

 Tryout Fees

All prospective players must be registered with Volleyball Alberta -> "2027 Youth Development Player – Tryouts"

Valkyrie VC does not charge fees to attend tryouts.
